Burn Flash a ShoreTel Switch

I pulled this from my notes earlier, it is something that does need to be done occasionally. If you’ve got a ShoreTel switch acting up this will fix it. Their switches are usually rock solid but occasionally something gets screwed up and they just need to have a “factory restore” done to them.
This requires you to be logged into your ShoreTel server. You’ll need to know the IP address of your switch. You can get this from Quick Look under the site the switch is on. I’ve done this many times over really terrible connections so there’s not a lot to worry about.
If you’ve got a site with a flaky connection, there’s some alternative solutions for you to look into, including secondary servers.

  1. Remote into your ShoreTel Server
  2. Open a cmd prompt and type “cd \Pro*”  if you’re running a 64 bit server hit TAB to look for “Program Files (x86) and hit enter. If it’s a 32 bit server you can just hit enter. Now type “cd sho*\*ser*”. You should navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Shoreline Communications\ShoreWare Server. Or just C:\Program Files\Shoreline Communications\ShoreWare Server. This is just a quick way using wild card characters to get where you need to go.
  3. Type “burnflash -s xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx”
  4. Wait for it to reboot, it will either give you an OK message, or an error. The errors usually mean you need to call your partner or TAC because of a bad switch or other problem.

It should be noted that this method only works on non V switches. If you have a V switch, you must do this a little different. Instructions Below:
1. Establish SSH (or console) session to the switch
2. Log in as root and pw of ShoreTel
3. type: svccli
4. type: burnflash
5. enter
6. allow at least 1 hour to complete.
7. get new IP address from DHCP server (or use console connection)
8. Establish SSH session to the switch
9. Re-enter all necessary ip configuration parameters, including NTP, DNS, SMTP
10. Reboot the V Switch
